Travel Routes

For those wanting to come straight to the Espoustival, here are the three fastest ways:
1- The fastest way to reach El Remate is through a $140, 1 hour direct flight from Guatemala City to Flores, which is 40 min from El Remate.
2- The second fastest way is to land in Belize City and then take a shuttle/taxi (2 hours) to the "western border" and then a shuttle/taxi (1.5 hours) from the border to El Remate. You can also fly from Belize City to Flores, but that's quite pricey.
3- The slowest way is to land in Guatemala City and take a long bus (8-9 hours) to Flores and then a shuttle/taxi to El Remate (40 min).

While we understand you'll be excited to come meet us in El Remate, flights are not cheap and many of you are avid travelers wanting to take full advantage of this travel opportunity. We hope you do so!

There are plenty of fun things to do around Flores, like boating on the lake, visiting caves and archaeological sites. While we will organize a tour of Tikal, other fun nearby sites are: Yaxha, Nakum, Uaxacatun, La Blanca, to name a only a few. Flores also is a fun place on its own, where one can spend 2-3 days just taking it easy. Good hotels to stay in Flores, in ascending order of price-range, are Mirador del Lago, Los Amigos, Villa del Lago, Casona del Lago, Casona de la Isla. The restaurant Raices serves the best steak in Guatemala, Cool Beans has great breakfasts, and Los Amigos has good food and a good secret bar.

Yet, let us suggest a few travel routes for those of you who would like to travel around the region for 3-20 days before or after the Espoustival. (You could always travel in on one of these routes and out on another!)

These routes start from the 4 easiest airports: Guatemala City, Belize City, Cancun, and Merida.

This route assumes you will land in Guatemala City, go straight to Antigua, and then spend some time exploring the beautiful Guatemalan Highlands before flying from Guatemala City to Flores.

This route takes you through the Verapaz Regions of Guatemala and through southern Peten. It involves a lot of winding roads but is breath-takingly pretty.

This route lets you break down the long bus ride from Guatemala City with stops at interesting spots along the way.

This route leads you from Belize City to El Remate along the Western Highway.

This route takes you along the Riviera Maya and through Belize. It could possibly be done in a couple very long days of bus, but we do not encourage you to do that.

This route takes you through really interesting places and is best suited for people willing to go visit many archaeological sites and to spend time in the jungle.
